KINGS HEATH ARCHERS
Newsletter - January 2009
First of all can we wish everyone a happy new year!
Now, to bring you up to date, so far we have approached a few sports halls but have not had much luck. Bishop Challoner has asked for more information and hopefully will consider letting kings Heath Archers hold an indoor shoot. We are still awaiting a reply from Steve McCabe M.P. about other available halls.
In the meantime we have been asked to send a delegation to meet with the diresctors of the Cricket Club so that we can discuss our problems (the section's that is) and a way forward. We would like to ask anyone who has any imput for this meeting to stay for a while after shooting on Sunday 25th January to give us their views.
We are awaiting a responce from Packington Hall Estate and Arbury Hall about using their grounds for a field shoots. Our other options are to join with existing field clubs such as Doverdale or Forest of Arden as a replacement for Bell heath.
And speaking of Bell heath, we have a little farewell verse.
Sorry lads, but Bell heath we've got to quit
They wanted cash and it's quite a bit
Seems our free training didn't fit the bill
So, out we go: It's a bitter pill.
But we've had good times, barbeques and all
And all those kids - where did my arrow fall?
We'll find it lads, you fill your bellies
Metal detector works better Mike without steel toecapped wellies.
With great competitions to keep the club alive
By the way, did anyone hit target number five?
But whats that over there, people being a bit rude?
NO! Kevin said, shooting barebow didn't mean in the nude!
And who is that shooting at target number eight?
Whoever it was, their aims not too great
Because in there is living a nice little mouse
Must be Kevin, he couldn't hit the side of a house.
And what of the rumours of a body in the wood?
Is the culprit Will Conq, Will Tell or Robin Hood ?
apple by the corpse, arrow in the eye and a small bag of loot
Or is Steve still adusting his sights - just shoot!!
He shot an arrow in the air
It came to land he knew not where
But we're in luck, in fact we're in clover
The scream was from Sonia who was just bending over
We'll survive this setback, don't worry about that
We wont be put off by some money grabbing prat
Just sorry for the kids who will now miss out
BUT WE'LL BE OK, OF THAT THERE'S NO DOUBT.

Now, on to other things...
Swanshurst has had a good turn out so far and we do run until the end of March. We would like everyone who attends to put in a score for the Portsmouth Postal Competition if they can.
We have had a few requests to attend summer fetes this year, so if you are not busy on Saturday 6th June we have Solihul Carnival; Saturday 4th July will be Northfield Carnival and in between we should have Bournville Festival and Kings Heath Carnival but the dates on the last two have not been confirmed yet. We'll let you know when we get them. If you could let Linda know if you can help out, that would be helpful.
You might like to consider joining Kings Heath Cricket Club if you shoot regularly or as a family. By joining the club you would not have to pay for shooting so you could save a fair bit of money over 12 months. Let Linda know if you are interested.
If you have any equipment that needs repairing, then when the weather is wet we will be in the pavillion with all the necessary equipment to repair arrows and tune bows. Just bring your stuff along.
Some of you might have noticed that Norman has not been around lately. This is because he is warming himself up in New Zealand for the next 3 months so he may (or may not) be back in April.
We have people who would like to be considered for a position of coach and are perpared to do the course. If anyone else is interested in having a go, and you fill the criteria, please let us know.
Just to remind you that the NFAS insurance runs out at the end of March. If you need a form for this we have them available. You can pay at any time up to the renewal date if you wish and if you want to pay cash then return your form and payment to Linda and they will be sent through together.
After the renewal date of your insurance Kings Heath Archers who wish to shoot will need a club card renewal label which costs £5.00 for the year 2009/10 to cover the cost of admin etc. You must show your new NFAS card with your number on it to recieve your label.
We will try to arrange a simulator trip to whitchurch for a Sunday afternoon at the end of February, so if you fancy going you must put your name down on the list. there is a maximum of 8 people at any one time and the cost is approx. £8.00 per head.
And finally... our web page has now been updated thanks to Paul Bruton. You can find us on
