Newsletter - May 2007

We had a very good turnout for the AGM/Presentation Lunch on 29th April. Our thanks to everyone who supported this.
The winners on the day were as follows:

Club Champion Bill Bradbury (Rose Bowl)
Club Field Champion Andy Rock (Jeff Callaghan Trophy)
Handicap Imp. Award Indoor Senior Malcolm Hill (Dee Wilde Arrow)
Handicap Imp. Award Indoor Junior Ranjodh Singh Jheeta (Junior Shield)
Handicap Imp. Award Outdoor Senior Claire Bradbury (Robin Hood Trophy) and Andy Rock (Joint 1st place)

The certificates for the monthly winners of the Club Field and Target Championships were unsigned when presented so, if you have one and want a signature on it, please return it to Linda. For those of you who didn't attend the A.G.M. there are a couple of points you need to know. First of all, you may have noticed that the shoot fees have gone up. No-one can remember the last time this happened. The new prices are:-

Casuals - 4.00 Seniors and 3.00 Juniors.

Kings Heath Archers are now 2.50 Seniors and 2.00 Juniors.

This reflects the costs of replacing bosses, stands, target faces, etc., which have gone up considerably.

Secondly, to keep the club up to date with new rules and regulations, a Child Protection Officer has been appointed. Our constitution will be amended to accommodate this new post.

Another popular event was the Mayday Barbecue held on 7th May. This was very well attended with 39 people who braved the showers to shoot morning and afternoon for medals. The winners on the day were:-

Juniors - Taylor Reynolds; Jack McManus; Katie Bradbury; Jaydee Rock; Paul Abbotts; Ranjodh Singh Jheeta

Seniors - Claire Bradbury; Pauline Bradbury; Beryl Brampton; Rick Savage; Andy Rock; Dylan Hopwood

During the summer from May to September we will be running a Summer Postal League competition. This is being organised by Ken and will be held on Tuesday evenings and occasional Sundays so, if you are free, can you enter a score by the last Sunday in the month.

The Cricket Club are requesting the use of the field on Thursdays 14th June and 19th July. We really need people to turn up on Tuesday and Thursday evenings to justify the use of the field. Remember, it is free of charge on these evenings.

The results of our Postal Competitions are as follows:-

Frostbite - Recurve 1st place 4944 points
Frostbite - Compound 6th place 2149 points
Portsmouth - Recurve 2nd place 9381 points
Portsmouth - Compound 6th place 2198 points

All archers please note:- Bell Heath have cancelled our first Sunday in July (1st). We'll let you know if we can get on the field on that day but, be warned, it may be cancelled.

Just a reminder (again) that the fetes will be here soon. The first one is Solihull at Tudor Grange Park on the 9th June. Kings Heath follows this on 23rd June in Kings Heath Park. Finally, we have Northfield Carnival on 7th July at Victoria Common. We really would appreciate any help on these events because they bring in much needed cash.

Just to update you on the proposed field shoot. We have not heard anything from the supplier of the foam material needed to build bosses so we cannot go ahead with the planning of this shoot at the moment. We will keep everyone posted on this one.

Would all archers please note that the instructions for the layout on the field are posted on the notice board. These rules must be adhered to for health and safety reasons.

We are hoping to work alongside the Cricket Club to attain Club Mark status. This is an accreditation scheme which would enable us to apply for lottery funding in the long term. It may also give us an opportunity to link up with other sports clubs or schools.

Polo shirts are going very well. We have approximately 30 members who we hope will be wearing our badge at shooting events.

The minutes of the A.G.M. will be available shortly. They contain the list of newly elected officers who will serve on the committee for the current year.
